On her 3rd round of casts.
Allie was born with metatarsus adductus. When she was about 2 weeks old, I thought her feet were more turned in than they should be. Her pediatrician kept telling me they would correct themselves. Anytime I felt concerned, I told myself not to be b/c the doctor wasn't. After 8 months of quieting the voice inside me that said something is wrong, I finally told our pediatrician to refer me to an orthopedic surgeon. After our first appointment, which I thought would just be a consultation, Allie left with 2 full leg plaster casts and I left in tears. I had no idea her condition would need such (what seemed radical at the time) treatment. At her first appointment there were talks of surgery in the future if the casts and corrective shoes didn't do their job. After 3 sets of casts (plaster ones for 4 days, pink fiberglass for 2 weeks, then purple fiberglass for 2 weeks and 3 days) we graduated to corrective shoes. And that's where we are now. She has a follow up appointment at the end of September and they will re-evaluate her then. We pray every night for those little feet to straighten! I am also praying that she won't have to do another round of casts, which I hear is very common. For now she is wearing her shoes 24/7, with a break during bath or pool time. She doesn't mind them at all.
